As an accounting intern, you will be involved in various tasks which relate to the processing and communication of financial and economic information. Some of the tasks you may be asked to be involved in are:
  • Preparing financial statements. 
  • Preparing taxation returns including Income Tax Returns, GST Returns, and FBT Returns.
  • Ensuring that client enquiries are attended to quickly with provision of up-to-date and accurate advice.
  • Ensuring that clients are compliant with the various tax and financial regulations.
  • Bank reconciliation. 
  • General administrative tasks.

​As a Business Administration intern, you will be involved with the overseeing of day-to-day operations within a company, as well as the decision making and maintenance of the efficient organisation of people and resources. Some of the tasks that might be asked of you are:
  • Assistance with placing of existing staff into training courses.
  • Understanding all office procedures and work to achieve competency levels similar to that of other members of staff.

Business Analysis is a disciplined approach for introducing and managing change in organizations. It is primarily involved with the determining of solutions based on existing problems. Tasks may include:
  • Helping design and build Microsoft templates.
  • Business process and systems documentation, analysis and mapping.
  • Website and web application development. 
  • Aiding the project manager in change management. 
  • Research in best practice for various areas of the business. 

Communications

As a communications intern you might be required to complete the following tasks:
  • Update database of contacts and send mass mailings.
  • Draft copy to summarise web content for social media, email etc.
  • Create graphics and other accessories for social media promotion. 
  • Update database of media and other contacts to ensure accurate, up to date records.
  • Monitor and record media mentions of publications and experts.
  • Assist with the production and publication of podcasts and videos.
  • Contribute ideas to develop new channels for communications.

Economics 

 
Business Internship New Zealand
Economics refers to the production, consumption and transfer of wealth from a personal to a national level. It is often divided into microeconomics, referring to an individual, group or company, and macroeconomics, focusing on national economics as a whole. Internships can be arranged in either or both of these areas, depending on your preferences. Your role may include:
  • Assisting with spreadsheet models for budgeting.
  • Contributing an article to a weekly economics publication.
  • Maintaining and updating databases.
  • Research policy for longer-term projects.

Finance

Finance is primarily concerned with the management of money within a company. Finance internships vary widely depending on the company you work with, but some of the tasks you might expect are:
  • Integrating data into quarterly and annual reports. 
  • Development of the financial component of asset management plans.
  • Process mapping - holding conversations with a number of parties, and compiling this information into a visual format.
  • Management reporting and analysis – primarily Microsoft Excel based, including tables, charts, data linking and formulas.
  • Coding of company invoices – standard coding according to schedule provided, ensuring appropriate approval for payment.
  • Detailed data extraction and analysis (SAS, MS Access), including setting up report/query formats.​

Human Resources is the area of the business which deals with the hiring, administration and training of staff. As an intern you may be asked to:
  • Maintain all human resource files and documents by recording new hires, terminations, changes in job descriptions and KPIs, merit increases, and vacation, sick, and personal time.
  • Manage employee relations: be a point of contact for all HR-related queries and issues.
  • Assist with the annual review process (scheduling, PA to manager and documenting).
  • Review training courses on request and booking staff onto courses.
  • Screen resumes against manager defined checklists.
  • ​Draft and post agreed job advertisements.

Logistics 

 
Logistics focuses on improving efficiency, and the execution and control of the movement of goods and/or people. Some of the tasks that may be expected of you are:
  • To find areas for logistical improvement and implement them throughout our clients. 
  • To conduct research and find ways to improve warehouse performance.
  • To analyze current processes, design and implement improvements, and, as a last step, to monitor and sustain the improvements.
  • ​To create new Standard Operating Procedures/Manuals for a new Warehouse Management System.
